STREET & CLUB PHOTOS

If there is creativity in my 'streetstyle' photography it is down to the extraordinary people who were kind enough to let me photograph them. I'm just making a record of what I see. And London was a lucky place for a street and club photographer to be in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Now in the 21st century I'm undertaking to digitize my earlier work - posting this here as I proceed. I often have little record/memory of the who, what and where of these images. I just know how much I respect and cherish all those people who dared to defy convention and fashion in the aim of making themselves portable works of art. If you have any info to help with the dating and captioning of these pics please email to put me right and help fill in the blanks. Thanks.

TED'S STORY

I have a large collection of photos from throughout my life. Despite all the countless pics taken these days I wonder if those born in the 21st century will have a similar collection when they are in their late 60s.

As well as digitising photos I've taken, I'm also working through ancient pics of myself. Not for my personal aggrandisement (some are positively embarrassing) but because I believe that such a collection provides a crucial historical record of 'real' people and how they lived in the second half of the 20th century.

The first set of pics from 1947 to 1949 are tiny prints - the images only 4x4mm - which show a world of which I have no actual memory. Is this really me? The early chapters of my book BOOM! - a baby boomer memoir, 1947-2022 (from Amazon in print and digital formats) gives context to these strange images.
